Dr. Victoria Michaels has over 20 years of experience practicing rheumatology in the Capital District. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and the New York State Rheumatology Society. Dr. Michaels earned her Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, and began her studies at Siena College in Loudonville, NY, earning her Bachelor of Science. Dr. Michaels completed the Brown University Internal Medicine Residency Program in Providence, RI, and a rheumatology fellowship at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence, RI. Dr. Michaels cares for patients 16 years and older at Community Care Rheumatology in Latham, NY.
Dr. Michaels wanted to be a doctor for as long as she can remember – the Fisher-Price Doctor Kit was her favorite childhood toy! She loves that her job allows her to meet and care for so many different people from all walks of life. Dr. Michaels knows we all have a story and finds it to be a privilege to learn about others. She thinks it is important to try to understand each patient’s individual questions and concerns. Her approach to patient care is one of empathy, respect, and collaboration. Rheumatology is often described as medical detective work. She finds it very satisfying when she is able to put the pieces of the puzzle together, determine a diagnosis, and implement a plan of care.
Dr. Michaels was born and raised in the Albany area and is proud to call the Capital District home. Outside medicine, she is an active member of the community, volunteering at the Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, NY. Her involvement with the theatre allows her to engage with the arts, which she believes is important for maintaining a well-rounded perspective in her medical practice. She also enjoys spending time with her family, gardening/landscaping and other DIY projects, as well as cooking, piano, and reading.
